Hillhead Music Club was set up in April 2014 and each year there are between seventy and eighty spaces for children to attend.
Classes on offer:
- Mini’s (musicianship)
In the P2 Mini Music Club, the children are taught musicianship skills using a Kodály approach to teaching. They learn about concepts (such as pulse, rhythm, notation and pitch matching) which will equip them with fundamental musical skills should they move onto learning an instrument.
Instrumental lessons are taught in a group setting. This makes the club social as well as giving children the encouragement to practice!
Children who learn an instrument also attend choir.
A child who plays an instrument before he sings may remain unmusical for a lifetime. That is why we encounter so many skilful pianists who have no idea of the essence of music.Zoltán Kodály
