Hyndland Music Club was set up in April 2009 to increase the opportunities to learn instruments at the school. The club has grown steadily and now offers after school music provision for around 100 children a week.
Classes on offer:
- Choir
- Djembe
- Guitar
- Mini’s (musicianship)
- Violin
- Whistle

In the P2 Mini Music Club, the children are taught musicianship skills using a Kodály approach to teaching. They learn about concepts – such as pulse, rhythm, notation and pitch matching – that will equip them with fundamental musical skills should they move onto learning an instrument.
Instrumental lessons are taught in a group setting. This makes the club social as well as giving children the encouragement to practice!
Children who learn an instrument also attend choir.
P1 Music Sessions
Every year the school and parent council fund extra music sessions in the spring term for all the P1 children. These sessions take place during school hours and are delivered by a Kodály trained music specialist.
Teach music and singing at school in such a way that it is not a torture but a joy for the pupil;
Kodályinstill a thirst for finer music in him, a thirst which will last for a lifetime.
Hyndland Ensemble

Hyndland Ensemble was set up in 2010 to give children in the upper school the opportunity to play and perform in a larger group.
Composer Andrew Cruickshank writes new music for the Ensemble each term. The Ensemble is open to P5-P7 children whether they learn their instrument in school, at music club or privately. Pupils rehearse from 2.15-3.15pm every Monday during school time and perform at the Glasgow Music Festival every year as well as
Children are invited to join the Ensemble if they can read a little music and are keen to perform. Andrew writes for the ability of each child so everyone can join in even if they have only recently learned to read music.
The Ensemble is usually made up of Violins, Cellos, Double Bass and Guitar but other orchestral instruments are welcome.
