Kelvindale Music Club was set up in April 2019 with musicianship classes for P2 children. The club is expanding in September to involve P2 and P3 children.
In the Mini Music Club, the children are taught musicianship skills using a Kodály approach to teaching. They learn about concepts (such as pulse, rhythm, notation and pitch matching) which will equip them with fundamental musical skills so they can move onto learning an instrument.
Instrumental lessons in the future will be taught in a group setting. This makes the club social as well as giving children the encouragement to practice!
Children who move onto learning an instrument will also attend choir.
A child who plays an instrument before he sings may remain unmusical for a lifetime. That is why we encounter so many skilful pianists who have no idea of the essence of music.Zoltán Kodály
